Along with a continued focus on certification, progress was made developing standards associated with single-use systems in bioprocessing
The May meeting for the Process Instrumentation group, originally scheduled in New Orleans, Louisiana, became a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Process Instrumentation group met to continue work on developing and enhancing the BPE Standards for the next scheduled release in 2022. Good progress was made regarding how to structure the ASME-BPE and resulting standards associated with single use systems. The BPE continues to focus on certification and the associated implications of that on standards.
The ASME-BPE is unique in the world, having resulted from widespread industry requests for standardization. It is the leading Standard on how to design and build equipment and systems used in the production of biopharmaceuticals. It incorporates current best-practices for enhancing product purity and safety. Companies that rigorously apply ASME-BPE standards often can achieve production efficiencies, lower development and manufacturing costs, and increase quality and safety, while complying with regulations.
ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 100,000 members in 140+ countries
